THE YELLOW ESTATE
A love poem on the window.
HIGH CEILINGS DESERVE HIGH QUALITY
With care and faithful preservation of the house's unique details, Nanna and her husband have transformed a historic artists' villa in Aarhus into a magical family home.
They hadn't intended to buy a house. But according to Nanna, The Yellow Estate was simply too good to be true. Close to forest and water, with a towering ceiling and invaluable remnants from the previous owner in the form of stars in the terrazzo floor and a love poem engraved in the window glass, there was no other option. The house had to be theirs.
"The house is very tall. There is decorative plasterwork to consider and a bay window. Large windows and the sun pouring in. We got in touch with Niels from Fischer, who was kind enough to come while we were in the midst of it."
It's often beneficial to incorporate curtains and sun shading early in the building and decorating process. As was the case here, Fischer advisors were involved during the renovation and could help form an overview of solutions that would suit the beautiful villa and its unique, high-ceilinged rooms.
"You often stick to what you know," says Nanna, continuing: "We went on a journey from vibrant floral curtains to ending up somewhere completely different. We were also challenged to avoid heavy wool curtains and opt for something lighter. In the bedrooms, in addition to blackout systems, we now have incredibly beautiful sheer curtains that match the wall colours. It looks really cool."
Opening the dialogue early gives us the valuable time to uncover specific needs and desires. This proactive approach often leads to solutions that are perfectly tailored to residents' daily lives and the unique context in which the curtains will operate.
OPEN DIALOGUE REVEALS NEW POSSIBILITIES
"While the curtains are indeed beautiful and elegant, they can also be easily removed and washed. They should be practical for a family environment that includes both children and a dog, allowing for playful moments without the worry of potential mishaps."
Together with Fischer's advisor, Nanna and her husband realised their vision for each room, particularly after incorporating the family's furniture and decor:
"The living rooms harmoniously blend together, creating a cohesive atmosphere on the ground floor through the repetition of fabric in the curtains. With such large windows, introducing soft, textured elements provides a perfect counterbalance. This choice has significantly enhanced the space, contributing to its overall acoustics."
At Fischer, we are proud to have played a part in crafting the everyday framework of this unique home for Nanna, her husband, their two kids, and their beloved dog.
Embracing curiosity in your decision-making process, combined with a blend of intuition and expert guidance, can lead to remarkable outcomes. Just as it did with Nanna at The Yellow Estate, where many of the initial ideas were developed and shaped into an aesthetic and durable solution.
The sooner you incorporate curtains and sun shading into your considerations, the faster you can achieve your desired goal. This also enables the experienced Fischer advisors to gain valuable insights into the specific environment where the sun shading will be applied and the conditions it must function under.
With soaring ceilings like those in The Yellow Estate, curtains do more than set the mood - they’re essential for creating a delightful acoustic atmosphere. Many bare surfaces can create disruptive reverberation, which high-quality curtains can dampen with playful ease.
