WOODFORM HOUSE
Soft curtains create smooth transitions between untamed, wild nature and sophisticated, man-made architecture.
TAILOR-MADE CURTAINS AND TEXTILES
In a wooden house nestled amidst wild nature resides the CEO and Founder of Woodform, a furniture brand rooted in proud craftsmanship traditions and a deep passion for exquisite details and design. WOODFORM House is a living showroom for Woodform's bespoke furniture and the private residence of Lars Christian Poulsen. Here, he resides with his family, discovering tranquility and drawing inspiration for new projects, all crafted from his preferred material—wood.
"My home is a big part of the Woodform identity. WOODFORM House is a sustainable house constructed of wood, both inside and out, and I enjoy the warmth that emanates from the natural and distinctively organic surfaces. For example, our walls and ceilings are not white but adorned with birch veneer. And our curtains, cushions, and pads are woven from recycled fibres and tailor-made for our home," says Lars Christian Poulsen.
This priority goes well with the architect's vision for the three-winged wooden house in Djursland: "A unique place like this deserves a house that is equally exceptional. Therefore, the house features large living spaces with beautiful light and intriguing views of the surroundings through windows placed both high and low. It is a house created with exclusive materials that awaken the senses and is meant to stand here, amidst nature, for many, many years," says Architect Kenneth Arboe about WOODFORM House, which received the Syddjurs Architecture and Conservation Prize in 2022.
THE RIGHT CHOICE OF CURTAINS
Sales consultants from Fischer's dealers helped find curtains and sunshades that aligned with both the architect's vision and the family's wishes. In the bedrooms, custom blackout blinds were installed along with light-dimming Kurage Casual Dense curtains. The more transparent version, Casual Light, was chosen for the living room, fireplace lounge, kitchen, and hallway. Fischer Sales Consultant, Niels Nygaard, reveals:
"Casual Light is an excellent choice because its fabric permits visibility, allowing you to see the outlines of the trees even with the curtains drawn. Instead of two curtains for each window, one large curtain was chosen. This way, the family can use the curtain like a panel, adjusting the fabric to provide more shade or spreading it out for a more uniform window frame."
Like the fine joints on Lars’ carpentry furniture, there is an artful finesse in the details of the draped curtains.
“A fold at the bottom of the curtains ensures a consistent appearance from top to bottom, creating a pleasing symmetry that elegantly frames each curtain," says Niels Nygaard and highlights two more details that make the curtains a sophisticated part of the decor:
"All hardware components are black, complementing the window frames, switches, and light fixtures. Given the sloped ceilings and unique dimensions of each room, the curtain profiles are suspended a few centimetres above, and the curtains go right to the edges of the window recesses. This helps to create a cohesive theme in the home decor."
MATERIALS IN HARMONY
Kurage textiles are renowned for their durability, just like Lars' bespoke furniture. Thus, in addition to curtains, the family chose to upholster two window benches with Kurage fabric. They also included a pouffe and several cushions from Kurage's elegant collection of soft home furnishings.
"The fabric used on the benches, cushions, and pouffe is called 'Dotty – I Used to Be a Sweater.' It is an exclusive wool blend with 50% recycled wool sourced from the clothing industry. This reduces the demand for virgin wool, allowing the family to enjoy textiles and accessories produced more sustainably," says Niels Nygaard.
COLOURS IN CONTEXT
While the materials are consistent, the colours tell a different story. Each room in WOODFORM House features a unique curtain colour, enhancing the distinct atmosphere and purpose of each space. This approach creates a dynamic, lively, and creative home environment. Lars Christian Poulsen explains further:
"The soft pink curtains add a feminine touch to our otherwise masculine black kitchen. In the living and fireplace rooms, olive-green and brown curtains create a calming atmosphere, while yellow curtains in the hallway soften the sharp architectural lines. Since adding the curtains and textiles, our architect-designed house feels more like HOME."
Through our dealers, Fischer provides a full range of Kurage textiles and custom-makes curtains and profiles for every type of room. With WOODFORM House, we are proud to once again make a dream come true for people passionate about design, architecture, and decor.
Soft, semi-transparent curtains serve as elegant bridges between indoor and outdoor settings, seamlessly blending wild nature with man-made architecture. Select fabrics that either complement or contrast with the natural surroundings. Sales consultants from Fischer dealers can help you make the right choice to ensure you find the perfect colours, shapes, and materials for your home.
With curtains in various colours, you can emphasise the mood in each room. Let the fabric material remain the same for a consistent theme. Now you're free to play with warm and soothing tones in the living room, while the kitchen can come alive with more contrasting or striking colours.
WOODFORM House is completely secluded from prying neighbours. Nevertheless, the family chose to install curtains in the fireplace lounge. When drawn, the curtains add soft and organic shapes to the room, enhanced by the curved curtain rod. We offer curtain rods in customised shapes and colours that elegantly match the fabric of your new soft curtains.
